I am devoting this page to documenting and sharing the information I collect on OCP and MCA. I hope this page will be of some assistance to all of you who are taking the same path. Disclaimer: Information on this page is not advisory. It is just a record of what all I have been able to do for OCP certification and MCA in the hope that everyone doing the same will be benefited. Monday, May 22, 2006 A very long time since I was able to add anything to these pages. Though I've been updating the "Links" pages. What can I say, life's kept me busy and I'm so grateful! Being a DBA isn't exactly a cake walk (and I'm sure it would be difficult to walk on cakes adding the guilt too :-) ). And being a Production DBA has its own moments. Of course, you can't play around the database as you can with a test database. Still, it's thrilling to realise that what you are dipping your hands in is the real thing!! Tuesday, October 25, 2005 Just when you think you are beginning to understand the courseware you realize that the session is over. With both IGNOU and my Study Centre being so very particular about lab assignments and term assignments I am going completely crazy. Still, I have managed to include three more links in the Links for MCA section. They are very helpful links. C being such an important programming language [at least as far as MCA goes :o) ] I believe these links will be useful. Note: I will soon be archiving these logs. Sunday, August 07, 2005 Hello and welcome everyone. As you can see I have been busy travelling the internet and finding some new links. A lot is happening on the Oracle front. Last week Oracle strengthened its interests in i-Flex and bought more shares. It is, of course, too early to talk about the consequences to the market. But this move has made it clear that Indian companies with a decent product in their hands are being noticed by larger international companies. As far as this site goes, I have added one article link, two website links and one Yahoo! group link. The article is by Mark Rittman. Useful information for those learning the ropes of Oracle and attempting OCP. Saturday, July 09, 2005 Right after my exams I went to Bangalore. Despite its narrow roads and weird traffic conditions it is a beautiful city. You can't see so many trees in Delhi at least. And so breezy! Maybe it is the climate that makes the people so simple and down to earth. I know none of this has anything to do with either OCP or MCA but I thought as it has a lot to do with IT I might as well include it :o) So, those of you Delhiites who have been thinking of shifting base to Bangalore pack up and move. You will love it. Thursday, July 07, 2005 Finally both theory and practical exams are over. All the papers were lengthy but I've now discovered how to write them. This I will share with you.
Monday, May 02, 2005 Second batch of my Term Assignments are over and along with it Viva voce. My exams are due in June. This means that I shall not be surfing around for new links for some time. For the moment, there are more links in the Links for MCA section. Tuesday, April 26, 2005 I marvel at people who work, study and then write blogs everyday. Look at Tom Kyte of Oracle, he works, answers questions on OTN, writes books and now he's started a blog. And here I am, I can barely study, collect a few links and write tiny logs once in a while! :) More on Oracle. According to Oracle PeopleSoft Planet Oracle will acquire more software firms. Oracle bought PeopleSoft last year, retail software maker Retek and more recently Obelix. I just finished the first batch of term end assignments for my MCA and now preparing for the second batch. Meanwhile I collected a few links which I have put up on the Links for MCA section. Monday, March 22, 2005 Hi Everyone, As promised in my last log I have added another page to this site - "Links for MCA" I hope these links are as useful to you as they have been to me. I have a soft corner for Wikipedia as I almost always find everything I look for in it. The information on Mathemetics is especially fabulous. Another web site I am fond of is MathWorld. Their collection of articles on Matrices is one of the best. Monday, March 07, 2005 It is such a long time since I made changes to my site. Studies have kept me busy. So busy I can barely breathe! Two months ago had anyone told me studying MCA from IGNOU would have been this tough I wouldn't have agreed. The new courseware is not just challenging but the new rules are too! Our subjects this semester are varied and interesting. My favourite are Discrete Mathematics (this is hard) and C. I am still coming to terms with Gates and circuits, etc. I was prepared to study through weekends but I was mistaken. One has to study throughout the week to be prepared for the weekend. Distance learning is fun! The course material ensures 4 to 5 hours of study everyday. To get the details on this and other courses you could check the following website: IGNOU. I shall soon put up a page of links I have found helpful for my studies. Hope you find it helpful too. Have a great day! Monday, January 24, 2005 As you can see I made some changes to the Logs. I decided to include information on MCA as well. I am doing MCA from Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. The course contents involve programming languages like C and Assembly Language, Unix, Oracle, etc. I am really excited!! I've begun practicing C and tried my hand at building a tiny application that calculates Simple Interest and Compound Interest for the given details. Friday, December 31, 2004 A very Happy New Year to everyone. I am still attending interviews but...maybe I should take Nick Corkadillos' advice more seriously. My MCA semester begins from January. I already have a lot on my plate and have added some more. Any help from those of you doing or completed MCA from IGNOU will be highly appreciated :) Monday, November 01, 2004 I recently attended an interview. There were three rounds of face to face interviews, one aptitude test and one written test. The written test and the aptitude test were easy and required the candidate to score at least 50%. In the technical interview questions asked included:
This answer has been verified by the pros at Yahoo! (OCP) Groups (OCP Free). As answer to the second question I have included some links which can be accessed from the Article Links page as well: I hope it is useful to those of us attending interviews. Monday, October 18, 2004 The Article Links page now has a new section "Miscellaneous". This section had to be created to add two links that I thought would be really useful. Both the links provide tools to study better. One is a complete course and needs free registration and the other is more like a paper. The author has put in his experiences to help the reader study better. I hope it is helpful to all of us preparing for OCP. Friday, September 17, 2004 I should have mentioned this much earlier. I have enrolled for Master in Computer Application (MCA) from IGNOU. I just loved the course contents. Plus, they have one semester left out blank. This semester will be filled in with the latest technology in the market at that time! So, I'm all geared to study MCA. Wish me luck!! For all of us interested in RSS but having doubts I have included an article in the "Article Links" page. You shall like this. Try the links in that article and share with me your findings. Tuesday, September 07, 2004 Hi all, It's a very long time since I made changes to this site. Thanks for appreciating the new design. I have been busy preparing for Fundamentals II, preparing project proposal for the NGO I sometimes I work with and of course, attending interviews (informational and otherwise). Coming back to the site, I was reading an article on UTL_FILE Package. This is a slightly old article (January 2004) but after reading my Oracle 8 information on the subject there was some new information here. Hope this will be helpful to all of us preparing for a long career in databases. There is also an article on RSS that I would like to share with you. Both the above mentioned links can be found in the "Article Links" section of the site. Thursday, July 01, 2004 As of 01st July 2004 I have segregated the "Links" page into two sections: 1. Article Links 2. Website Links. I've updated the links in this page to reflect the same. Since I started bookmarking specific articles all the links were jumbled into one page. The segregation of links will make life easier. Saturday, May 15, 2004 I was re-visiting the January / February 2004 issue of Oracle Magazine online. An article I was not able to read previously caught my attention. It is titled "Women in Technology". This article offers advice to women on what they can do to get noticed. More importantly, the article contains links to websites of women's technology and computing organisations. Wednesday, May 05, 2004 Oracle has announced its "...plans to retire the Oracle8i Database Administrator Certified Professional exams. In accordance with our stated retirement policy, we are hereby giving you notice of Oracle’s intention to retire these certification tracks. As of December 31, 2004, the core certification exams for the Oracle8i DBA OCP track will no longer be available." More information can be found on Oracle's website. Thursday, April 29, 2004 I am collecting articles that will help people like us in furthering our knowledge of Oracle and our careers. The latest of these links can be found in the Welcome page; I shall be adding the complete list to the "Links page" under the heading "Must Read". Note: As of 01st July 2004 these links can be found in "Article Links" page Sunday, April 04, 2004 For those of us attempting OCP and also looking at other vendor certifications there is an interesting article in DBAZine. It looks at SQL Server and DB2 certification as well. This is the link: DBA Certification Secrets: How to Pass the Tests Tuesday, February 10, 2004 There is so much information available on the web, especially for someone who is willing to look for it. Therefore, I looked and found another Yahoo! group that has well organised information on OCP. This group is called OCP9i-DBA and is available in the "Links page" under Yahoo! (OCP) Groups. Monday, January 26, 2004 This is in reply to the emails regarding how I went about preparing for OCA:
Monday, December 22, 2003 Oracle was prompt in mailing me my certificate. Thanks Oracle. Wednesday, December 10, 2003 Hi All, As of today I am an Oracle Certified Associate!! :) I cleared Fundamentals I (Exam no. 1Z0-031) exam with 95% marks. Once again Yahoo! OCP groups were very helpful. Please do take a look at them before you take the exams. The details of the exam are as follows:
Monday, October 20, 2003 This is important folks. Oracle is giving a 50% discount on all exams taken on or before 31st December 2003. Friday, August 15, 2003 Independence Day!! My wishes to Indians all over the world. Oracle, as most of you know by now, is unveiling its next version of Oracle database which is called Oracle 10G. The "G" stands for Grid Computing. Other software giants like Microsoft, IBM, etc. are also building similar products. If you want to read more you could check out this link: Oracle thinks grid Thursday, August 06, 2003 Oracle Users' Club, India. As the name suggests this is a website for Oracle professionals to come together. The registration is free and they have a collection of links, tips, etc. I've added this and a few other links to the "Links" section. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 I have added more links to the "Links" section. There's a new Yahoo! (OCP) group and of course, more addition to the Career Resources. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 Hey guys, I finally took and cleared my OCP Introduction to Oracle 9i: SQL (Exam no. 1Z0-007) with 93% marks. The details of the exam are as follows:
Now the next step is the Fundamentals 1 exam (1Z0-031). Thursday, May 22, 2003 For those of you living in Delhi, if you plan to take your OCP exams before 31st May, 2003 the Oracle Prometric centre at Nehru Place is offering 40% discount. The contact phone number is: 2647 5287. PS: This date has been extended to the end of June (might be extended further). Friday, April 18, 2003 I was about to take my first OCP exam this month but had to put it off till next month. There is a good FAQ section on the Prometric web site. Discussion forums like DBA Click have lot of information about for all those attempting OCP. Thursday, March 20, 2003 I have added a Career Resources heading to the Links page. The web sites in this collection give information on everything from writing resumes and cover letters to managing careers. Thursday, February 27, 2003 It is such a long time since I updated my logs. This delay is due to the fact that my machine got wiped out and I had to re-install everything. Luckily, I had saved my data on the web and did not lose anything! As promised, I added more links to my DBA/Oracle collection and Yahoo! (OCP) Groups. More is on the way. Wednesday, January 15, 2003 I have found a few Yahoo! Groups that focus on OCP preparation. Not only are the members sharing information on how to prepare for OCP they are also helping each other find jobs as DBAs. I shall add these soon to my collection. Thursday, December 26, 2002 To begin on OCP first place is of course the Oracle web site. Join the OTN (Oracle Technology Network). It's free and gives you access to tons of material. Monday, December 16, 2002 My freelance work has kept me quite occupied. In the meanwhile, I have simplified the Links page. Perusing through the links should be a lot more easier now. I have also added some new links. Some of my friends have provided me links on other topics as well. I have tried to incorporate them. Also, I am trying to find out practice tests. There are some good links but I have not tried out the tests as yet. Note: As of 01st July 2004 the "Links" page has been segregated into two sections: 1. Article Links 2. Website Links. Tuesday, November 26, 2002 I am going to take the (OCP) DBA track for which I have begun collecting information. I managed to install Oracle and create a database. Yes, it took a long time and it took a lot of patience on my part. The electricity situation in this part of India is not very good. I also found some good articles and tutorials on SQL, etc. Though I have worked on Oracle there were things to be learnt. Everything Oracle is one such site. I like these kind of tutorials that stick to just one point and don't wander. Maybe I'll write some too :o) |
